Foundation Sets Record for Fundraising Success

Surpassing 2005’s record-shattering performance proved to be a formidable, yet achievable, challenge. Thanks to the generosity of nearly 3,000 donors and hundreds of dedicated volunteers, the Foundation raised over $8 million in cash and cash equivalents during 2006. This represents an increase of $1 million over 2005’s results, and $3 million more than what was raised in 2004, prior to adopting a new fundraising strategy and enhancing the Foundation’s professional staff. The performance translates to a 60% increase in revenues during the past two years, compared to less than 10% in the same period for the average non-profit organization., More.

The Coast Guard Foundation is a non-profit organization that raises funds to benefit Coast Guard men and women. Its mission is to support projects and programs that enhance the lives and performance of all Coast Guard members, including cadets at the Coast Guard Academy. The Foundation does not build ships. It does not supply uniforms or other basics. But it does provide essential benefits: college scholarships for the children of over 50 enlisted personnel, educational grants for nearly 1,200 Coasties pursuing advanced degrees, millions of dollars toward sea- and land-based training and recreational facilities. These are only a few examples of the many enhancements made possible for the Coast Guard’s people through the Foundation. The Foundation raises funds through a variety of methods: special events, grants and contributions from corporations, foundations and individual donors. The Foundation’s tradition began in 1969 and as the organization grew, so did its ability to support Coast Guard men and women. While the organization’s activities have grown and broadened over the years, its objectives remain the same.
